Event at COP23: innovative and diverse financing for forest conservation & restoration at landscape scale
Science
As the global community prepares to implement ambitious forest landscape restoration plans, it is vital to pay attention to the quality of FLR outcomes and practices.

To address this issue, an international group of experts formed the Forest Landscape Restoration Taskforce (FLoRES) and is proposing the development of a Standard for FLR.

Fauna & Flora International, OroVerde – Tropical Forest Foundation, Fundación Defensores de la Naturaleza and WeForest held at COP23 a highly successful & well-attended event at the South Africa Pavilion.

The common theme explored was innovative and diverse financing for forest conservation & restoration at landscape scale and the need to address quality standards to ensure effective implementation of global commitments. The partners presented latest learning from practice, and explored next steps in this rapidly growing area of interest, assisted by expert contributions (Michael Hüttner – International Climate Initiative of the German Ministry for the Environment; Darlington S. Tuagben – Managing Director, Forestry Development Authority, Republic of Liberia) and enthusiastic questions form the larger than expected audience.
